Connect Ed Parent Email – Weekly Announcement

Week of Monday, October 18, 2021

Good afternoon this is Ms. Botica, Principal at Nathan Hale Middle School, with your upcoming announcements for the week of Monday, October 18, 2021.

Friendly reminder! At Nathan Hale Middle School, the school doors open at 7:55 a.m.  Upon entry students turn in their daily health screeners and get their temperatures checked. Students are expected to be in their homerooms by 8:05 a.m.  If students are not in their homerooms by 8:05 a.m., they are tardy.  Students are dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

 

School administrators, teachers, and staff continue reminding students that spreading false information, whether in person or through social media, and physical aggression can lead to dangerous situations and will not be tolerated.  In addition to consequences, NHM also uses restorative practices to set boundaries, teach expectations and resolve conflicts amongst the students.

ALERT!  The contracted school bus companies, Illinois School Bus and Alpha Bus, is experiencing an extreme driver shortage and is working with CCSD 130 to provide the necessary transportation for our students.  It is encouraged to transport your students to and from school if possible. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope for improved transportation in the very near future.

 

SAFETY FIRST at NHM!  Car riders are to be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance of NHM.  Do not drop students off behind NHM or in the NHM bus drop-off area.   When dropping off/picking up your student, pull all the way up to the drop off location and have your child quickly exit/enter the passenger side doors.  Our goal is to keep the traffic moving while maintaining the safety of our students and staff.

 

Students that ride their bicycles to school must remain on the sidewalks.  Students that ride their bicycles in the parking lots, or on the grass, will lose their privilege of riding a bicycle to school.

 

PARENT REMINDERS!

 

  • The end of the first quarter is on Friday, October 22, 2021.  Report cards will be distributed during parent teacher conferences on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Parent conferences will be held in person. We are not offering a remote conference option at this time.  For the sake of safety, up to 2 family members may attend the in-person conference. We kindly ask that all COVID 19 safety measures be maintained including wearing a mask, maintaining a 3 foot distance, and completing a health screener upon entry.
  • Thursday, October 28, 2021 is an early release day for students with dismissal at 11:15 a.m.  There is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, October 29, 2021.

 

 

According to the CCSD 130 uniform policy, “The sweater, sweatshirt, sweater vest, and cardigan must be plain or have the school logo. The sweater, sweatshirt, sweater vest, and cardigan can be light blue, black, gray, or navy blue. Hooded sweatshirts or hooded tops of any kind are not allowed to be worn inside school.” 

 

Also, according to CCSD 130 policy, cell phones and watches are subject to the following rules: 1) They must be kept out of sight.  Students’ cell phones are to be off and stored in their lockers.

The letter informing parents about physical education, and the purchase of physical education uniforms and locks, has been sent home with your child.  It can also be found in the “News and Events” section on the NHM website.  Click here:  https://nhm.district130.org/244814_2.  We are pleased that teachers have been reviewing expectations and that our students will be able to participate in light activity, following the safety protocols.

 

To learn more about your child’s schedule and grades, you can sign into PowerSchool Parent Portal at your convenience.

 

If your student will be absent due to an illness or any other unforeseen reason, a parent MUST call the secretary before the beginning of the school day at 708-385-6690 to report your student’s absence.  Failure to do so will result in an unexcused absence.

Please know that you can always contact our school office, your child’s teacher, or wait for communications such as these, however our websites are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We encourage you to visit them regularly to remain informed about what is happening at our school and across the District.
