A message from NATHAN HALE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Connect Ed Parent Email – Weekly Announcement

Week of Monday, May 9, 2022

Good afternoon this is Ms. Botica, Principal at Nathan Hale Middle School, with your upcoming announcements for the week of Monday, May 9, 2022.

Friendly reminder! At Nathan Hale Middle School, the school doors open at 7:55 a.m.  Upon entry, students are expected to go their locker, pick up their breakfast and be in their homerooms by 8:05 a.m.  If students are not in their homerooms by 8:05 a.m., they are tardy.   Students serve same-day lunch detentions if they are tardy for school.  Students are dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

School administrators, teachers, and staff continue reminding students that spreading false information, whether in person or through social media, and physical aggression can lead to dangerous situations and will not be tolerated.  In addition to consequences, NHM also uses restorative practices to set boundaries, teach expectations and resolve conflicts amongst the students.

ALERT!  The contracted school bus companies, Illinois School Bus and Alpha Bus, is experiencing an extreme driver shortage and is working with CCSD 130 to provide the necessary transportation for our students.  It is encouraged to transport your students to and from school if possible. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope for improved transportation in the very near future.

Students that ride their bicycles to school must remain on the sidewalks.  Students that ride their bicycles in the parking lots, or on the grass, will lose their privilege of riding a bicycle to school.

PARENT REMINDERS!

SAFETY FIRST at NHM!  Car riders are to be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance of NHM.  Do not drop students off behind NHM or in the NHM bus drop-off area.   When dropping off/picking up your student, pull all the way up to the drop off location and have your child quickly exit/enter the passenger side doors.  Our goal is to keep the traffic moving while maintaining the safety of our students and staff.  Please do NOT drop off/ pick up your student in the bus lane located in front of Nathan Hale Intermediate, or any other location in an area causing blockage.  This not only dangerous, but it causes traffic to back up onto 135th street.

At NHM we will have dress down days on Friday, May 13; and Friday May 20, 2022.  The dress down days cost $1.00 to dress out of uniform.  The money raised will be used towards purchasing and installing an additional bike rack at NHM. Please note that students MUST follow the dress code on dress down days.  This includes no hoodies, no ripped jeans, no midriff / half tops, no string tops, etc.  Students are to be covered from shoulder to shoulder; neck to knee.  Gym shoes are to be worn.  Please see the dress code in the parent handbook for additional information.

Yearbooks are in and are now on sale! Students will be able to purchase yearbooks for $25 cash during their lunch periods starting Monday April 25th. Students that pre-ordered yearbooks will receive their books in homeroom on Monday April 25th. The remaining books will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

The 8th grade dance will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at NHM from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Dress is semi-formal. Students must follow Cook County School District 130’s dress code. Each student must have a ticket to enter.   Tickets are $20.00 and are now on sale.

All outstanding fees for students in 6th, 7th , and 8th grade must be paid on or before Friday, May 20, 2022.

The band concert is at NHM from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00- p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022.  Unfortunately, the choir will not be able to perform due to an unforeseen circumstance.  We would like to applaud the choir students for their singing roles and performances last week in the play, “The Wonderful Land of Oz”.

The 8th grade field trip to Great America is on Friday, 27, 2022.

The 6th and 7th grade end of the year Fun Fair is on Friday 27, 2022

There is NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 nor Tuesday, June 1, 2022 for our 8th grade students.  The last day of school for our 8th grade students is Friday, May 27, 2022.

There are early dismissal days at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, and Tuesday, June 1, 2022, for students in 6th and 7th grade.  There is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, May 30, 2022 in observance of Memorial Day.  On this day, the district is closed.  The last day of school and report card distribution for students in 6th and 7th grade is June 1, 2022.
